Point

12 January 2024- From A Point

From a point in space, a world...

World Data Here

This morning's prompt is 'cough drop'.

A face, a place and something good, something bad and something ugly.

The coughing fit passed and the man realized a little girl across the aisle was offering him a cough drop.
"Thanks."
The little girl, mute, just shrugged. He took the cough drop and unwrapped it. The wrapper had some sort of fortune cookie affirmation, 'You will make a new friend.' He looked back to the girl.
"Will you be my-"
The girl was asleep and he felt disoriented. The room spun around while he clung to the armrests of his seat and then things went dark.

I just read Karel Capek’s cat drabble…

This is one of the things which makes us human, the capacity to imaging another very different point of view. When I dream of aliens, I don't imagine them as people so much as I imagine them as points of view trying to understand us, like the cat. Does that make any sense?

I wanted to get a few things done tonight, but not so much...

I was thinking about the bottom up thing again and the trick to use coordinates to get pseudo random, repeatable results, worlds and universes from seeds.

And this as far as I've gotten, back to points and lines and triangular surface tiles pushing out from an initial point, to a line to a triangle to a 'sufficiently round' polyhedral world map, a resolution of hundreds of kilometers per pixel was the best I could manage, but...

On Earth an average person can see about six miles to the horizon, about ten kilometers. That's something you can wrap your mind around, surely. This often gets us into hexagons in the TTRPG hobby, but these bust up into triangles, everything does, and if I make them ten km on a side we get endlessly interlocking triangle fans, mostly but not always forming hexagons on a spherical surface.

I simply need to get the page to render the surface of a world at some scale, made up of millions of triangular surface tiles which are land or sea or whatever; easey peasey!
This morning's prompt is 'danish'.

A face, a place and some good, bad and ugly things to build a character and a story. Not a baker in a fancy French bakery or patisserie...

Buckminster Fuller came up in a post today: People like Buckie make me believe in a benevolent agency, perhaps spiritual, perhaps the manifestation of the creative and empathetic side of our natures, as opposed to the violent, selfish and domineering side. We will always object to being bossed around, especially by jerks who don't have any talent for it, nor any idea how to get the job done.

True leadership is not about (just) getting people (to want) to do your will, it is about getting people working together for some purpose, convinced or assured that they matter, that they can contribute, that they are needed. That was Buckminster Fuller's story and his message

I've been with Quan and Quan's Curious Goods for a long time now, and sometimes he sends me on errands, over yonder, as I put it. Home is an Earth where the Blue Sox lose.
Every.
Single.
Season.
And I'd go back again, at least one more time, to take in a game anyway.
I made the delivery and stopped in a patisserie, for, I don't know what it was, like some sort of danish. The french did something right and coexist in North America with New Spain or something; there are kingdoms but the people seem happy, busy, and fulfilled. When I see that, and it happens more often than a pessimist like me would have expected, I take notes.
People are busy doing interesting things, talk about politics without rancor, the nuts and bolts, practical social engineering, not, well, like sports fans.
Here they have a living secular saint of sorts, with royal patronage and beloved of the common folk. He got them to think about new ways of doing things, got enough smart, ambitious people involved. It's not a socialist paradise, but it's not a zombie capitalist 'paradise' either. Workers own their work, hire managers and lawyers, and if they can't make it happen, they go bankrupt. But they know their business, believe in the work.
The whole world went over to this system in two generations and they haven't fought a major war in a quarter century.
Lucky bastards.

Hoothi coast
This is a placeholder for a page I want to do. I will spec out the world mapper, un-ironically

10 January 2024- Founder Effects!

Trying something different.

This morning's prompt is 'flutterby', apparently a pretty^2 Pegasus...

A face, a place and something good, bad or ugly... Peggy jumps out at me as does furry and critter. An exotic zoo?

Peggy is a genetically modified goat with ornamental wings. She's not able to fly except she keeps trying to 'swim' through the air in micro-gee in the tunnels of an abandoned and repurposed asteroid mine, the tunnels filled with habitable, pressurized volume, the walls shot through with fiber-optic glow patches. Her care-taker is Gloria, a young rock-hopper child whose family works for the scientists and their little mad science institute.
