Updated Barnard's World

7 October 2024- Barnard's Star b

A tidally locked planet at Barnard's Star. Some years ago I split the now disproven super earth into a double planet and did some animation. Now we have a tidally locked rockball...
The planet is smaller than Earth, is liable to be rather like Mercury, just with twice the gravity and with some ices which can be used for habitats. The three day year and tidal lock doesn't mean the sun doesn't slowly rise and set as the orbit is probably highly eccentric.
I chose to name the planet after E.E. Barnard's wife, Rhoda nee Calvert and the capitol is Calvert on the darkside under a constellation of mirrors at the L2 lagrange point.

This morning's prompt is 'tape measure'.

This morning's prompt is 'black eyed Susan'.

"The black eyed Susans are staring at us..." Ben said to Brenda when they took a break.
"Let them," she answered and leaned in and helped herself to a kiss. Ben kissed her right back, and they were preoccupied for a little while. Carol sang out a childish old rhyme and they both gave her the one fingered salute.
Tom was shocked to realize his mother was crying silently. "Mom?!" he whispered, low and urgent, turning to scan for trouble.
"It's nothing."
"It is not 'nothing'!" Tom wanted to shout, but didn't, couldn't do that to Ben and Brenda... "Oh."
"Oh," Carol agreed. "Nothing... gold can stay."
"I don't accept that. I can't accept that."
"My boy. Going to fix the world, huh?"
"I damn well will try," Rom said with a little anger, then added, "Sorry."
"Don't be. I haven't given up, I just have... moments of doubt."

Peels

30 September 2024- Orange Peel World Map

Random is hardcoded... still working on the orange peel world map.
(get on with it, Cleaver! You owe youself subdivided triangles with land and sea!)
I'm going to parse out the land and sea to quad/peels instead. The edges aren't really straight lines, but curves; we'll get to that...

Oops!
This morning's prompt is 'tricycle'.

Oops!
This morning's prompt is 'dancer'.

Jules leCroix was the big bad warrior poet in my other big damn space opera and he watched Heibei and Hannah meeting and being skittish awkward teenagers. He thought to himself, "welcome to the dance."

I need to get back to those characters. They were never as demanding of my attention as the big alien kitty kat from my original big damn space opera, but I was writing some covenant of stars bits earlier this year, when I wasn't concentrating on another survivor group in the zpocalypse.
