2D version of an octahedral worldmap

2D World Map of an Octahedron

An Octahedron, sort of! Baby steps... randomly coloring each triangle as I go along. I want to give each pt a height, instead, and average the corner heights for each triangle as I subdivide the triangles by edges I will add new midpts between endpts and average the endpt heights plus a little randomness. If the heights is above 0.71, the triangle is green for land, else blue for sea.

Silly World Map!

For now, I am randomly drawing blue or green rectangles. I can fill an array with 'green' or 'blue' for each pixel/ terrain block. Instead, I could create an array of heights at different pts on a sphere, make quads or quad pairs of triangles and worry about making rows of similar area triangles later. Baby steps...

First subdivison, pushing the center of the base triangle out

Black box full of stars, within which I want to set my world spinning! For now an orange is flying at you... Made a tetra and then pushed out the center of the base triangle. I need to be able to check new triangle to see if it's wound correctly/facing out? If the center z is negative, then cross product component z also should be, I think...
