I need to discuss love sex and robots...

Beyond the Aquila Rift is about an alien who is supposedly looking after human spacers who wind up a long way, too far, from home and apparently the best it can do for them is to keep them alive (for while) and in suspended animation or on life support, interacting with them.

The first question I ask myself is why? Is the entity pretending to be Gretta alone because she got trapped in this place like these other spacers and their ships? Are there any others? Is she some loner, some 'shoplifter hermit' sabotaging others and grabbing the occasional passing starship and crew because its lonely?

If we took it at face value and there were many others, then why hasn't it come up with a better solution for her collection? Brute force manufacture a habitat and severely limited food source based on gut flora and fauna, hell, vat grown human tissue, which is literally cannibalism but better than whatever is happening to their bodies...

Unless these folks are incredibly good at controlling pests, there should be something to build on, whether it's bugs, rodents, weeds and mold, or seeds, pets, even a terrarium
