Splody planet still not really started. A grid of strange quads subdivided into triangles. The edges points of quads get pushed out to the radius.

This makes a bunch of triangles and I could subdvide them, then group them by the vertices in step one, pushing out daughter vertices to the radius, making perfectly fine polygons out of a triangle fan around step one vertices (OG vertices? 8-P).
