This morning's prompt was 'mexico', a little too topical... I ended up sketching a crummy little cactus with the legendary eagle tormenting and eating a snake. I squashed the picture which I drew this morning and that has vastly improved things! 8-P

World23's What's The Local Color Wednesday has got something to do with Mexico, a zocalo, an eagle and/or a snake. A zocalo, I believe, is what the central plaza and marketplace of a Mexican town or city is called. The port city from Sunday, which I think I forgot to name, had a slave market, but the Republic set up by the Free Men and Women has swaps and coops. Labor gangs organize their own shops and cooperatives and can raise capital by selling bonds to stakeholders, who have certain rights because they have a common interest, and vultures, who do not. Marriages used to involve selling brides. Nowadays a young man or woman who just wants to get married and who may or may not have a partner, can raise funds to start a household by pledging their labor and selling marriage or 'coupling' bonds. Same sex couples are not unheard of. Also, orphans and unwanted babies can be bought and sold. In any case, there is always a supposedly disinterested third party holding funds in escrow and paying out on performance. This may seem cold, but it's a vast improvement over the old system...
